Etowah 76 - Annandale, VA 68

The Varsity Boys took the third round game of the Deep South Classic by the score of 76 - 68 over the Atoms from Annandale, VA. The victory gave Etowah third place in their bracket and evened their record at 6 - 6 overall on the season. Etowah had played a hard game the day earlier with the Wesleyan Wolves who ended up winning the Deep South Classic, but showed no signs early of fatigue as they jumped out to an early 5 - 0 lead en route to a 9 -4 midway advantage. The Atoms responded with a spark and knotted the score at nine when Etowah quickly put together a 7 - 0 run to help take an 18 - 13 lead at the first break. Annondale picked up the pace to start the second stanza and an early 8 - 1 run put the Atoms on top 23 - 21 with just over five minutes left in the half. Etowah regained the lead when the Atoms came storming right back with a 9 - 0 run late in the quarter to go on top 34 - 29. The half time break saw Annandale with a slim lead at 35 - 34.

Annandale continued to hold their slim lead in the third period, going up as much as five points on a couple of occaisions until late in the quarter when the Eagles outscored the Atoms 6 - 2 to close the period and tie the game at 54 heading into the fourth. Etowah opened the fourth quarter scoring with a free throw to regain the lead briefly with Annandale coming right back to go on top, followed by a 5 - 0 run by the Eagles to take the lead for good. Annandale was not finished trying to get back on top as they continued to battle the Eagles, cutting the margin to two at 68 - 66 with just over 3 minutes to play when Etowah put the game away forcing turnovers by Annandale while hitting the open man inside to secure the 76 - 68 victory.

Ben Stone led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points, followed by Tyler Blackwell with 15 and Chris Brasher with 13. The Eagles victory closed out the Deep South Classic Tournament with a 2 - 1 record.
