Etowah 64 - Campbell 71
The
Varsity Boys fought hard, coming up on
the short end as the Campbell Spartans
were victorious by the score of 71 - 64.
The loss drops Etowah to 6 - 10 on the
season and 2 - 3 in region play.
Etowah started strong jumping out to a 12
- 2 early lead before Campbell closed the
quarter with the final seven points.
Etowah continued to maintain their lead
in the early stages of the second
quarter, with Campbell briefly taking a
slim lead at 17 - 16 before Etowah
quickly put together six unanswered
points to go up 23 - 17. Campbell after
trailing for the majority of the opening
half started taking advantage of some
early Eagle foul trouble as they mounted
a closing 8 - 0 run and a half-time lead
of 30 - 26.
The third period continued on the same
pace as the close of the second with
Etowah staying within six midway thru the
period, when once again Campbell
capitalized down the stretch of the third
stanza to build a fifteen point advantage
before the Etowah countered with the
final score of the quarter, trailing 49 -
36. The Spartans kept their double digit
lead in the opening minutes of the fourth
quarter, but Etowah continued to battle
hard cutting the gap to single digits
midway thru the period. The Eagles
chipped away against some tall odds,
closing within five with less than a
minute to play but couldn't overcome the
hole as Campbell took advantage of their
43 trips to the free throw line on the
night compared to 17 for the Eagles as
Etowah had one player foul out and five
others with four fouls.
Etowah had a balanced scoring attack with
Jon Eargle leading with 11, followed by
Tyler Blackwell and Spencer Poer with 10
while Nate Washington, Zach Okerblad and
Michael Brantley contributed 9, 8 and 7
respectively.
