Etowah 50 - Hillgrove 55
The
Varsity Boys dropped their inaugural game
to the Hillgrove Hawks by the score of 55
- 50 to fall to 6 - 7 overall on the
season.
Hillgrove got on the board first when
Etowah put together an early 7 - 0 run to
go up 9 - 4 en route to holding a 11 - 8
advantage at the first quarter stop. The
Eagles maintained their lead increasing
the margin to six midway thru the period
only to see the Hawks close out the half
with a 6 - 2 spurt to close the Eagles
lead to two at 20 - 18 heading into the
locker room.
Hillgrove climbed back on top early in
the third stanza with Etowah knotting the
score on two occasions prior to the Hawks
reeling off five unanswered points for a
29 - 24 lead. Etowah hung with Hillgrove
cutting the gap to two late in quarter
when the Hawks once again struck fast
outscoring the Eagles 8 -1 to build a
nine point lead before the final two
buckets by the Eagles brought them back
to 39 - 34 deficit heading into the
fourth. The final quarter started with
the two teams exchanging scores when
Etowah got hot outscoring Hillgrove 8 - 2
in a stretch that saw Etowah go back on
top for the first time since the start of
the second half. The Hawks tied the score
on two occasions with Etowah climbing
back on top by three at 50 - 47 with 2:45
to play. Hillgrove capitalized on a
couple of Eagle miscues regaining the
lead with 51 seconds in the contest
before finishing with the five point
victory by the final score of 50 - 47.
Ben Stone led the Eagles in scoring with
18 points followed by Tyler Blackwell
with 11.
