Etowah 75 - Kennesaw Mountain 64
The
Varsity boys improved to 3 - 4 overall
with a 75 - 64 point victory over
cross-region Kennesaw Mountain. Etowah
started strong against the visiting
Mustangs, jumping out to an early 9 - 2
lead only to see Kennesaw Mountain
respond with three from beyond the arc to
cut the margin to 11 - 10 before the
close of the opening period that saw
Etowah on top 14 - 10. The Eagles started
the second quarter in the same fashion as
the first holding the Mustangs scoreless
for the first five minutes while putting
up 14 points to complete their 17 - 0 run
dating back to the end of the first
quarter. Kennesaw Mountain trailing by
eighteen at 28 - 10 started chipping away
and managed to cut the margin to ten
before Etowah carried in a 32 - 20 lead
at the break.
Etowah opened the third quarter with the
initial score, however the Mustangs
countered with seven unanswered points to
get back within single digits at 34 - 27.
The two teams exchanged scores through
out the third period until Etowah closed
the third stanza with a 9 - 2 advantage
to maintain their twelve point lead
heading into the final eight minutes. The
Mustangs hung tough opening with two
treys and quickly cut the gap to six
early in the fourth. Once again they
exchanged scores as Etowah couldn't get
up any more than eight and Kennesaw
Mountain couldn't get any closer than
six, until the Mustangs put a small 7 - 2
rally to trail by three with just under
two minutes remaining. Etowah did an
excellent job of protecting the ball and
hitting free throws down the stretch to
preserve the lead and come away
victorious.
Etowah was led by Ben Stone 20 and Zach
Okerblad with 18 points and 8 rebounds,
followed by Tyler Blackwell and Jon
Eargle with 13 and 10 while Spencer Poer
fed 9 assists on the night.

excellent victory!
