Etowah 48 - Marietta 78
The
Varsity Boys fell to 7 - 12 on the season
and 3 - 5 in region play as the Marietta
Blue Devils dominated the contest,
winning 78 - 48 at the Eagles Nest. .
Marietta came into the contest undefeated
in region play scored the first bucket to
open the game but Etowah regained an
early lead with four quick points.
Marietta then capitalized on a pair of
buckets from long range followed by an
Eagle score to cut the gap to two, when
the Blue Devils went on a 7 - 0 run
including another trey to build a nine
point advantage. Marietta closed out the
opening quarter on top 16 - 10. The start
of the second period was all Marietta
with a 10 - 0 spurt and a sixteen point
lead with just over five minutes to play
in the half. Etowah managed to cut the
gap to twelve only to see the Blue Devils
pull away with eleven unanswered points
and a twenty-three point lead in the
closing minutes of the first half. The
Blue Devils went into the locker room at
the midway point up 40 - 19.
Etowah came out in the third period
looking to get back into the game only to
see Marietta open the second half with
another 11 - 0 run, putting them up 51 -
19 and in control of the contest.
Marietta built a thirty-six point margin
late in the quarter before taking a 63 -
31 lead into the final eight minutes. The
outcome of the contest was already
determined as they started the fourth
quarter, but Etowah continued to compete
by outscoring the Blue Devils in the
final quarter 17 - 15.
Etowah put two players in double figures
with Zach Okerblad contributing 13 points
and Spencer Poer tossing in 12.
