Etowah 61 - Murray County 60
The
Varsity Boys improved their region record
to 2-1 and 4-4 overall with a road
victory at Murray County by the score of
61-60. The Murray County Indians got on
board first and held a slim 11-9 margin
at the first stop. The second period
remained close with Etowah briefly
holding the lead at 17-16 when Murray
County responded with five unanswered
points for their biggest lead of four
points in the half. The Indians
maintained the slim advantage until the
closing seconds when Etowah hit from
beyond the arc at the buzzer to take a
one point margin at 28-27.
Etowah opened the third quarter with
another trey followed by a bucket to take
a 33-27 lead before a Murray County score
broke the 10-0 advantage by Etowah.
Murray County chipped away in the last
half of the third quarter cutting the gap
to two at 40-38 until Etowah tossed one
in from the inside followed by another
trey at the buzzer to stay on top 45-38
heading into the fourth quarter. Etowah
held their 7 point lead early in the
final period when Murray County put up
six unanswered points to pull within one
at 47-46 with 5:00 remaining. Etowah
connected on a couple of unanswered
buckets only to be matched by the Indians
with the same. The Eagles then stepped up
with an 8-0 spurt to take a 59-50
advantage with less than two minutes
remaining. The Eagles final score at the
35 second mark had Etowah fairly
comfortable with a 61-52 score, however
Murray County struck for a quick score
followed by a missed Eagle free throw and
another three with three ticks left. The
Indians fouled and took another Etowah
missed free throw then connected from
half court at the buzzer to cut the final
score to 61-60.
Etowah put two players in double figures
with Ben Stone leading the way with 18,
followed by Michael Brantley with 12 off
the bench. Congratulations to the Eagles
on their road victory.
