Etowah 62 - South Cobb 54
The
Varsity Boys won their final regular
season game at South Cobb to finish the
regular season at 9 - 15 and 5 - 8 in
region play heading into next weeks
region tournament.
Etowah connected first to start the game
but South Cobb came right back and held a
slim lead for the opening minutes when
Etowah trailing 9 - 8, went on a 10 - 0
run to build a 18 - 9 lead en route to
finishing the opening period by matching
their highest first quarter out put of
the year on top 20 - 12. South Cobb
quickly cut into the Etowah lead early in
the second quarter climbing within five,
when the Eagles responded mid way thru to
increase their advantage by double digits
before heading for a break up 41 - 32.
South Cobb chipped away to start the
third period drawing within five until
Etowah connected from long range to go
back up by 8 with 4:15 left in the
quarter. South Cobb managed a couple of
scores around an Etowah bucket to trail
by six when Etowah countered with a
bucket and an old fashion three point
play en route to closing out the quarter
with a 7 - 2 spurt and an eleven point
lead at 55 - 44 heading into the fourth.
South Cobb quickly forced some Eagle turn
overs to start the fourth and climbed
back into the game cutting the margin to
four with five minutes to play. Etowah
started to spread the floor and was able
to convert from the charity stripe as the
Eagles had zero field goals in the fourth
quarter but finished preserving the 62 -
54 victory with seven free throws in the
quarter.
Etowah put three players in double
figures with Zach Okerblad finishing with
18 as he contributed 14 in the first
half. Tyler Blackwell closed out with 14
and Chris Brasher finished with 12.
