Etowah 76 - Woodstock 67
The
varsity boys evened their record at 2-2
with a 76-67 victory over cross-town
rival Woodstock. The Wolverines came out
firing from long range hitting their
first three shots from beyond the arc to
go up 9-7. The Wolverines continued to
connect adding a couple of additional
treys late in the period to build a 19-9
lead. Etowah continued to chip away but
Woodstock maintained the lead at 21-17 at
the first break on the strength of five
three point shots. Etowah took their
first lead early in the second period on
a steal, score and one at 24-23. The
Eagles built and eleven point lead midway
through the quarter before carrying a
40-33 advantage into the locker
Etowah maintained a single digit lead
early in the third quarter before they
put together a 13-0 run to go up sixteen
in the second half. Etowah continued to
hold the double digit advantage building
a twenty-one point lead with 2:50
remaining in the final quarter, however
with the game looking under control the
Wolverines countered with thirteen
unanswered points in less that two
minutes to cut the margin to eight.
Woodstock then began fouling to lengthen
the game only to see Etowah convert and
preserve the nine point victory.
The Eagles put three players in double
figures with Ben Stone, Michael Brantley
and Tyler Blackwell contributing 16, 15,
and 12 respectively.
The victory was the first credited region
game, so Etowah stands at 1-0 in region
play.
