VARSITY BOYS
Etowah 59 - Woodstock 40
The
Varsity Boys got back on the winning
track with an excellent nineteen point
victory over cross-town rival Woodstock
by the final score of 59 - 40. The
victory puts the Eagles record at 7 - 11
overall on the season and 3 - 4 in region
play.
Woodstock came into the contest looking
for an upset off their first victory of
the year, fell behind early as Etowah
jumped out to an 8 - 1 lead. The
Wolverines however closed the gap down
the stretch of the opening quarter with a
9 - 2 run to tie the score at ten, before
the Eagles scored on a put back to hold
the 12 - 10 lead at the first stop.
Etowah once again opened the quarter
strong building a double digit lead
midway thru the second stanza, enabling
the Eagles to take a 30 - 19 margin into
the locker at half.
Woodstock opened the second half with the
initial score to cut the gap to single
digits, but Etowah quickly stretched the
lead with a 9 - 3 spurt. The Eagles
maintained their double digit lead and
closed the third quarter building a
twenty point advantage, heading into the
final stanza up 47 - 27. Etowah opened
the fourth with two quick buckets for
their largest lead of the game at
twenty-four points allowing Etowah to
control the tempo and close out the
contest with the victory and a sweep over
the Wolverines.
Etowah put two players in double figures
with Zach Okerblad leading the way with
18 points, fourteen coming in the first
half followed by Jon Eargle with 14 on
the night.
