The
varsity girls won their season opener
56-41 against the Campbell Lady Spartans
on the road. Campbell came into the
contest rated 4th in the state pre-season
poll. Etowah started fast with an
up-tempo game and an early 8-1 lead.
Campbell responded with five unanswered
points before the Lady Eagles closed out
the opening period 12-6. Etowah continued
the fast pace with multiple substitutions
to build a twelve point lead midway
through the second quarter. The Lady
Eagles carried a 28-17 advantage into the
locker room.
Etowah continued to build their lead,
doubling the margin at 36-18 midway
through the third quarter en route to
taking a 42-25 advantage into the final
eight minutes. The Lady Eagles kept the
Lady Spartans in check for the remainder
of the game as Campbell couldn't get any
closer than a dozen points before the
final fifteen point Etowah victory.
Etowah was led in scoring by Alicia
Manning with 18, followed by Krysta Lewis
and Lindsay Mason with 15 and 12
respectively.
The two teams will meet again on January
11th at the game that counts toward the
region record, as the initial game
against cross-region foes is not recorded
in the regional record.
