54 - Campbell 40
The
Varsity Girls improved to 11 - 4 on the
season and 4 - 1 in region play with a
win over region foe Campbell Lady
Spartans by the score of 54 - 40.
Etowah once again started fast jumping
out to a 11 - 1 margin en route to
building a 15 - 6 advantage at the first
stop. The Lady Eagles continued to build
their lead early in the second quarter as
they scored the first six points, going
up by fifteen at 21 - 6. The large margin
allowed Etowah to start rotating players
and they didn't miss a beat taking a 29 -
13 lead into the locker.
Etowah maintained the double digit lead
for the majority of the third period,
until late in the quarter when the Lady
Spartans increased their aggressiveness
and closed out the third period with the
final eight points to cut the Etowah lead
to single digits at 41 - 33. Campbell
continued comeback with the opening score
in the final stanza, cutting the Lady
Eagles lead to six when Etowah countered
with seven unanswered points and tight
defense building a thirteen point
advantage with less than three minutes to
play. Campbell then was forced to foul
and Etowah capitalized on their free
throws down the stretch to preserve the
victory by the score of 54 - 40.
Lindsey Mason was the only Etowah player
in double figures on the scoring with 23,
but the boards were controlled by Etowah
with Alicia Manning grabbing down 20
boards and Lindsey 18.
