The
Varsity Girls dropped a non-region game
to the Hillgrove Lady Hawks by the score
of 73 - 68. Etowah's Lady Eagles now
stand 8 - 4 on the season as they head to
the stretch run of their region schedule.
The Lady Hawks from Hillgrove started
strong scoring the first eleven points of
the game en route to holding a 15 - 8
lead at the first stop. The pace picked
up in the second quarter as the Lady
Eagles chipped away with five unanswered
points down the stretch to only trail 34
- 31 at the midway point.
Etowah came out in the third quarter
knotting the score at 47 midway, then
taking a brief lead at 49 - 47 with just
over four minutes remaining in the
quarter. Hillgrove regained the advantage
and headed into the final eight minutes
on top 52 - 51. The Lady Hawks opened the
final quarter with a trey to go up by
four. Hillgrove continued to keep
pressure on the Lady Eagles, building an
eight point advantage with just over
three minutes to play, when Etowah came
charging back to trail by two at 68 - 66
with 1:11 on the clock. Etowah was forced
to foul and couldn't get any closer as
the Lady Hawks took their inaugural
meeting by the final count of 73 - 68.
Etowah was led by Alicia Manning with 21
before fouling out in the closing
seconds, followed by Lindsey Mason with
20 and Krysta Lewis with 13.
