51 - Kennesaw Mountain 49
The
Varsity Girls improved to 5 - 2 on the
season with a two point victory over
cross region opponent Kennesaw Mountain.
The Lady Mustangs came into the contest
with a 6 - 2 record but Etowah jumped out
early, putting together a 10 - run en
route to taking a 20 - 8 first quarter
advantage. The second quarter was all
Kennesaw Mountain as they stepped up the
defense and cut the Lady Eagles margin to
one at the half.
The second half was a different story
from the first as neither team could pull
away as there were five lead changes in
the third quarter with biggest lead by
either team being three points in the
quarter, before the Lady Mustangs tallied
the final four points and a 38 - 37
margin heading into the fourth. Kennesaw
Mountain went up by three earlier in the
final period when Etowah responded to
briefly regain the lead at 41 - 40. Once
again there were five lead changes until
the two teams were knotted at 47 with
just over 1 1/2 minutes to play. Etowah
took the lead at 49 - 47 with a bucket at
the forty-three second mark and Kennesaw
Mountain responded to tie the game with
twenty seconds left in regulation. Etowah
took a time out with 4.7 seconds and
promptly hit a baseline jumper with 1.2
seconds for the final score and a hard
fought victory.
Alicia Manning put 30 points on the board
with supporting help from Lindsey Mason
who contributed 12. Congratulations to
the Lady Eagles on securing the victory!
