The
Varsity Girls improved to 14 - 5 on the
season and 7 - 2 in region play, taking a
road win from the Lady Mustangs from
Kennesaw Mountain by the score of 62 -
52.
Etowah had won the earlier contest
between the two clubs by two points,
opened the game up tempo jumping out to a
7 - 0 lead. The Lady Mustangs got on the
board hitting from long range only to see
Etowah continue their onslaught with a 6
-1 run and an early nine point lead.
Kennesaw Mountain closed the gap as the
quarter ended connecting again from long
range followed by an inside bucket to
trail 15 - 9 at the first stop. The Lady
Eagles remained in control early in the
second quarter increasing their advantage
to nine once again, when the Lady
Mustangs went on a tear closing out the
half hitting four shots beyond the arc to
take a 26 - 24 half time lead.
Etowah opened the second half and quickly
regained the lead with the first two
scores in a quarter that would see the
lead knotted five times. The two teams
exchanged a couple of baskets when
Kennesaw Mountain opened up a six point
lead with an 8 - 0 run. Etowah fought
right back to tie the game at 36 when the
Lady Mustangs connected again from long
range only to be matched by an Etowah
trey. The third period went
back-and-forth before Etowah closed out
the quarter on top 47 - 44. The fourth
quarter continued to be a battle as
Etowah couldn't increase their margin to
any greater than five midway thru the
final quarter. Kennesaw Mountain closed
the gap to three with over four minutes
to play when Etowah blitzed the Lady
Mustangs with a 10 - 2 run down the
stretch to seal the victory, finishing on
top 62 - 52.
Alicia Manning scored 27 and Lindsey
Mason contributed 21 to lead the Eagles
in scoring.
