The
Varsity Girls dropped their first game of
the season to the Marietta Lady Blue
Devils by the score of 65 - 45. The
loss puts the Lady Eagles at 4 -1 on the
season and 1 – 1 in region
play. Marietta connected first and
held a slim lead early in the opening
period before putting together a 12
– 0 run as they opened up a 20
– 8 first quarter advantage.
The Lady Eagles opened the second quarter
with a score only to see the Lady Blue
Devils respond with a 9 – 0 run to
go up 29 – 10 early in the
half. Etowah attempted to chip
away, cutting the gap to twelve late in
the period before going into the locker
room down 37 – 23.
Etowah wasn’t able to make a dent
into the Marietta advantage as the Lady
Eagles trailed by fourteen heading into
the final eight minutes, down 47 –
33. Etowah continued on their
efforts to get back in the game, cutting
the lead to ten midway thru the period
before seeing Marietta put the game out
of reach down the stretch for the home
victory.
Etowah put two players in double figures
with Alicia Manning leading the way with
21 followed by Krysta Lewis with 13.
