The
Varsity Girls dropped to 13 - 5 on the
season and 6 - 2 in region play, falling
at the hands of the Marietta Lady Blue
Devils for the second time this season.
Etowah opened with the first score of the
game only to see Marietta quickly go on
top 6 - 2. The Lady Eagles fought right
back to score six unanswered of their own
and regain the lead at 8 -6 when the Lady
Blue Devils countered once again with six
points to close the quarter on top 12 -
8. Marietta opened the second period with
another 6 - 0 run for twelve unanswered
points and a ten point lead early in the
second stanza. Etowah got back into the
game, cutting the margin to five midway
thru the period before Marietta carried a
25 - 19 lead into the locker at half.
The opening play of the second half
remained close with Etowah still trailing
by five with over five minutes to play
when Marietta put together a 10 - 0 run,
bolting to a fifteen point advantage late
in the quarter. The Lady Blue Devils
finished the third period on top 43 - 29.
The final eight minutes saw Marietta
climb on top by twenty and looked to be
in control, but Etowah didn't quit as the
Lady Eagles went on a 9 - 0 run to trail
by ten with just over two minutes to
play. Etowah couldn't overcome the
deficit, closing out the contest with a
bucket to get within single digits as the
buzzer sounded.
The Lady Eagles put three players in
double figures with Alicia Manning
leading the way with 15, followed by
Lindsey Mason and Krysta Lewis with 10
each.
