38 - McEachern 50
The
Varsity Girls dropped to 14 - 6 on the
season and 7 - 3 in region play as the
Lady Eagles had their lowest offensive
output on the season, coming up short to
the Lady Indians from McEachern by the
score of 50 - 38.
Etowah started strong against McEachern
who came into the game rated #2 in Class
5A as the Lady Eagles jumped out to an
early 10 - 2 lead. McEachern controlled
the closing minutes of the opening period
as they were able to cut the Etowah lead
to three as the opening quarter ended 12
- 9 in favor of Etowah. McEachern kept on
their scoring run with the first two
buckets of the second period to gain the
lead at 13 - 12 before Etowah scored to
regain the lead while stopping the 11 - 2
Lady Indians scoring spree. The lead
changed hands three times in the second
quarter with Etowah scoring the final
four points to head into the locker room
up 20 - 17 at the half.
The contest remained a close battle in
the third quarter with the lead once
again changing hands multiple times until
the Lady Indians took the lead at 27 - 24
midway thru the quarter for their largest
lead of the contest. Etowah fought right
back and outscored McEachern 6 - 2 down
the stretch to hold a slim 30 - 29 lead
heading into the final eight minutes.
McEachern opened the fourth quarter with
a bucket and Etowah matched to go back on
top, followed by a McEachern free throw
that knotted the score at 32 with six
minutes to play when the Lady Indians
rallied for another 11 - 2 run and the
nine point advantage with just under four
minutes in the contest. Etowah was then
only able to trade buckets with McEachern
over the next two minutes as they
couldn't get any closer than seven before
the Lady Indians took home the twelve
point final victory.
Alicia Manning scored 14 on the night
followed by Lindsey Mason with 12, with
the majority of the scoring coming from
the field as the Lady Eagles only managed
to get to the charity stripe for four
shots on the evening.
