The
Varsity Girls improved to 10 - 4 on the
season and 3 - 1 in region play with a
convincing win over region foe North Cobb
Lady Warriors by the score of 64 - 53.
Etowah started fast in this important
region contest, jumping out to a 10 - 0
margin en route to building an early 16 -
3 lead midway thru the period. The Lady
Warriors regained some composure to close
the quarter with the final nine points to
climb back into the contest. North Cobb
continued their battle back early in the
second period, taking a brief lead at 18
- 17 with the remainder of the second
quarter living up to the billing of a
hard fought contest. Etowah regained the
lead and was able to stretch it to as
much as six late in the half with North
Cobb battling back to knott the score at
28 before a final Lady Eagle bucket put
Etowah on top by two heading into the
locker room.
The start of the second half saw the Lady
Warriors open with a trey to regain the
lead, followed by a bucket and another
from long range for the largest North
Cobb lead of the game at 36 - 30. Etowah
got untracked putting together a 9 - 0
run and the lead at 39 - 36. The Lady
Warriors hit another trey followed by a
duece which turned out to be their last
lead of the game as Etowah closed the
third period strong outscoring North Cobb
8 - 1 down the stretch as they took a 47
- 42 advantage into the final eight
minutes. The fourth quarter saw North
Cobb hang tough as they closed the gap to
two points early in the period, however
Etowah maintained the lead heading down
the stretch. Etowah led by three midway
thru the final period before coming up
with a couple of defensive stops and six
unanswered points to secure the contest.
The Lady Eagles were victorious by the
score of 64 - 53 at the final buzzer.
Lindsey Mason contributed 25 points from
the inside with Alicia Manning adding 15
as they also had supporting help in
scoring from Nicole Glickman and Krysta
Lewis with 9 and 8 respectively.
