Etowah
47 - North Cobb 48
The Lady
Eagles dropped a heart breaker to the
North Cobb Lady Warriors by the score of
48 - 47. Etowah is now 15 - 7 on the
season and 8 - 4 in region play with one
region game remaining before tournament
time. Etowah has secured second place in
region 5B, trailing Marietta by four
games.
The game got off to a slow offensive
start for both teams with the Lady
Warriors opening up a 5 - 0 lead. North
Cobb maintained the lead for the entire
quarter as the period ended with the Lady
Warriors on top 8 - 6. North Cobb opened
the scoring in the second quarter with a
trey followed by an inside bucket to go
up 13 - 6 with over 6 minutes to play.
Etowah countered with a couple of buckets
to cut the gap to four midway thru the
period before the two teams countered
each other with 4 - 0 spurts, ending the
half with North Cobb on top 19 - 15.
North Cobb opened the third period with a
couple of buckets to match their largest
lead of the game at eight at 23 - 15. The
Lady Warriors continued to hold the
advantage in the third period with Etowah
climbing back in the game with a late 7 -
2 rally capped by a bucket from beyond
the arc to pull within two. North Cobb
scored to go back up by four and Etowah
countered with another trey at the close
of the third period to trail 32 - 33
heading into the final eight minutes. The
fourth quarter opened with North Cobb
striking first followed by an Etowah
bucket before the Lady Warriors only
managed one for two at the line on the
next trip and a two point lead with 6:30
left in the contest. Etowah knotted the
game for the first time since the opening
tip with a pair of free throws at the
6:02 mark. North Cobb responded with five
unanswered points and the Lady Eagles
came right back with a pair of buckets to
trail by one midway in the quarter. The
Lady Warriors continued to hold the lead
connecting on another pair of free throws
and Etowah came right back with a bucket
and trailed 43 - 42. North Cobb
maintained their lead as both teams again
traded a pair of free throws when the
string was broken as the Lady Warriors
managed to only hit one out of two for a
46 - 44 lead with less than 30 seconds.
Etowah then worked the ball looking for
the open shot and came down with less
than 6 seconds remaining banked in a trey
to take their only lead at 47 - 46 but
the Lady Warriors quickly pushed the ball
up court and connected on a 10 footer at
the buzzer for the one point victory.
Etowah was only able to put one player in
double figures as Lindsey Mason led the
way in the scoring column with 23.
