The
Varsity Girls improved to 13 - 4 on the
season and 6 - 1 in region play with a
win over cross-town rival Woodstock by
the score of 62 - 49.
Etowah had won the previous contest
between the two clubs by sixteen and
jumped out early with a 6 - 0 lead when
the host Lady Wolverines connected on
three shots from beyond the arc to take a
9 - 6 lead. Woodstock continued to lead
for most of the opening period going up
as much as six at one point until a
closing 6 - 0 run by the Lady Eagles put
Etowah back on top 21 - 19 at the first
quarter break. Etowah opened the second
quarter connecting on a pair of free
throws as Woodstock was called for a
technical foul after the first quarter
buzzer en route to scoring eight
unanswered points, extending their run to
fourteen points and a 29 - 21 lead. The
remainder of the half saw the two teams
exchange scores with Etowah taking a 38 -
30 margin into the locker room.
The Lady Eagles picked up the defensive
intensity late in the third quarter,
taking an eight point lead with just over
three minutes to play and stretching the
gap to double figures as they finished
with an 8 - 0 run and a sixteen point
advantage heading into the final stanza.
Etowah protected their double digit lead
going up as much as eighteen late in the
game before the Lady Wolverines scored
the final five points.
Alicia Manning led the way with 16 first
half points before finishing with 25,
followed by Lindsey Mason with 19.
