From the Foundation
~~~We appreciate the support of our volunteers and of those who have made financial contributions to the Etowah High School Foundation. Donations from both individuals and corporations enable the Etowah High School Foundation to serve Etowah High School.
~~~The central courtyard project has been completed and is quite an enhancement to the campus. Special thanks to horticulture teacher, Sue Smith, and her students for assisting in planting this beautiful new area. Plans for an amphitheatre in the central campus area are underway and we are in need of funding for this project. Remember, projects such as these will become a reality only with your support.
~~~The alumni website, funded by the Foundation, is now up and running. Thanks to Tom Umberger of Umberger Consulting and Lori & Dave Poer of ConnecTec Communications for making the Alumni website possible.
~~~The Foundation continues to support the Renaissance Program and the painting of wall murals. Your financial support is needed! See below for details on how you can make a tax-deductible contribution.
~~~Due to lack of use, we have discontinued the HELP!!!LINE. Georgia students have access to The Toll-free School Safety Hotline: 1-877-SAY-STOP provided through the Georgia State Department of Education. The 24-hour school safety hotline, which does not require callers to reveal their identities, is designed for crisis prevention. If students know of an unsafe situation in school (weapons violations, bomb threats, drugs or alcohol, bullying, etc.), they can anonymously pass on that information through the hotline, initiating immediate and appropriate action. For more information, visit http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/schools/safety/hotline.asp.
~~~We welcome your ideas and comments. Feel free to contact us by phone 770 926 4411, ext. 272 or by email info@etowahfoundation.org . Thank you for supporting our efforts to enhance the educational environment and opportunities available to the students at Etowah High School.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Thank you! - EHSF Board of Trustees
Etowah Scholarship Opportunities
Etowah High School is pleased to announce two new scholarships this year. The Kelly Scholarship is available to a student who plans to pursue a career in a sports related field of study. Dr. Bob Kelly will donate $500 annually to the school for a student applicant to be selected by the school. Dr. Kelly has been Etowah’s "team doctor" for the past three years and has helped many of our students through some difficult injuries.
The second scholarship opportunity is from Dr. Scott Harden, DDS. This annual $1000 scholarship is available for a student for a student applicant to be selected by the school who plans on pursuing a career in the dental field.
If you are interested in learning more about these scholarship opportunities please contact the Etowah High School counseling office. 770-926-1109. Etowah greatly appreciates these generous scholarship opportunities from Dr. Kelly and Dr. Harden!
In Search of Free Money
Grant Research/Writing
The grants committee is seeking sources of funding for capital improvements, special projects, and curriculum enhancements. Many corporations have either in-house foundations or "matching fund" policies. If you have access to or knowledge of any such programs, we have worthy project proposals and experienced grant writers willing to go to work. Making Etowah one of the best schools in the state will take teamwork. Helping find free money is a great way to "contribute." Please contact us by e-mail, info@EtowahFoundation.org or by phone at (770) 926-4411, ext. 272.
Back to School Shopping
Office Depot provides free supplies to schools through its "5% Back to Schools" Program. Help Etowah cash in on this program and plan to do your back to school supply shopping this August at Office Dept on Molly Lane off Hwy 92 in Woodstock. When making your purchases, be sure to tell them to give 5% to Etowah High School.
ET Booth Basketball
Like many of Etowah's booster clubs, ET Booth has a segregated account established through the Foundation. Thanks to Roy & Judi Watson for their generous donation that provided ET Booth with the funds needed to purchase new uniforms for their basketball program this year.
From the Principal
I hope that you have visited the campus recently because it looks great. Both the new grass and the plants that Sue Smith’s class planted last fall are transforming the area. If you remember, this beautification program started a few years ago when the Etowah Foundation was formed. The plants in the front of the school and the revitalized courtyard were all projects of the Foundation. Last August, the Foundation paid for the concrete and planters that are now part of this area. Just recently, the county maintenance department contracted with Westmoreland to correct the drainage and to place sod throughout the area. We also have an outside company that comes in once a week to do lawn maintenance. None of this would have been possible without the support and help from Dr. Petruzielo. He supported the creation of the Foundation 4 years ago, and has allowed the high schools in the county to redirect money allocated for custodial purposes to be used to outsource the yard work. The results of these changes are apparent around the campus. The Foundation’s next big project is the construction of a stage in the courtyard that can be used as an outdoor classroom or for concerts. The building of this stage would turn the area into an amphitheater and would really be an attractive addition to our campus. Without the Foundation, much of these changes would never have occurred. I encourage all parents to help this organization to continue its mission "…to enhance the education, extracurricular programs, and the facilities of Etowah High School." As parents "graduate" from Etowah, new parents are needed to keep the program moving forward. In my 4 years at Etowah, I have been very fortunate to work with outstanding parents who really care about this school. The Foundation and the PTSA have different functions; but without these organizations’ help, none of the changes would have ever occurred. I thank all these parents for their support for the past 4 years and look forward to working with them next year.
Renaissance
The Renaissance Program has been going strong this school year. The theme for this year’s program is "So You Say You Want A Revolution". A clear statement that is encouraged by this theme is that we are Breaking the Academic Record of Excellence. A committee of students from each grade was formed like last year to help and offer suggestions for the program. These students are also involved in the planning and implementation of the Academic Pep Assembly which takes place each May. At the pep assembly, awards are given out to those students with high academic achievement and to those who have shown the most improvement throughout the year. There are also games and skits involving as many students and teachers as possible. Students at Etowah this year have once again received incentives based on their grade point averages. They have been issued gold, blue, or white cards which include various discounts to local businesses. They are color coded based on a student’s GPA and the discounts increase as you go from a white card to a gold card. Students have also received t-shirts stating the theme of the Renaissance program if they were recipients of a gold or blue card. Over 200 students have received t-shirts this year. One of the goals of the Renaissance Program is to reward these students with motivational incentives, hoping it will encourage others to want to strive for academic excellence. Thanks to Mr. Jeff Bennett and the students who served on the Renaissance committee for helping to make the program a success.
