Am I required to attend open gyms?
You are not required to attend open gyms which are scheduled for girls who are rising ninth graders, junior varsity and/or varsity prospective players. It is strongly recommended that you attend as many open gyms as possible in order to get better. The coaching staff does try to keep an attendance record for open gyms. June 26-July 26, mostly at ET Booth gym. Tuesdays, Thursdays.
What goes on at open gyms?
Players who are candidates for the high school volleyball teams come to open gyms to play games and work on their skills. Open gyms are a great way to get to bond with other players as well as be seen by the coaching staff. BOYS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT OPEN GYMS!!!
Are tryouts required?
YES! All players must attend every day of tryouts. If you arrive at tryouts the first day without a completed physical, you WILL NOT be permitted to tryout. Please come to tryouts prepared.
What if I can not attend tryouts during the allotted dates?
If you cannot attend tryouts, you will not be kept on a team. TRYOUTS ARE MANDATORY. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. Due to scheduling, tryouts must be on the dates given. While we are certain that there are many good reasons for missing tryouts, we simply cannot get into a situation where players are not trying out for the same team at the same time. High School volleyball requires commitment.
Can I work during the season?
It is highly recommended that you do not work during the volleyball season. Volleyball requires a great deal of time and effort. Players have found that volleyball and school work take up most of their time during the season. PLEASE WRAP UP YOUR SUMMER JOBS AND FAMILY VACATIONS BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF TRYOUTS!!!
Should I attend an individual camp?
It is highly recommended that players attend at least one individual camp. Open gyms are less structured and would benefit more from individual instruction.
If I was on a team last year, am I automatically on a team this year?
Players on a team last year are not automatically on a team this year. Everyone is welcome to tryout but we are going to keep the best athletes and volleyball players for our program. The team gets harder to make every year as we improve.
Can I miss practice once I am on the team?
NO! Our players pride themselves for never missing practice. High School volleyball requires commitment.
If I attend open gyms and attend camps, am I guaranteed a spot on the team?
No. You will be giving yourself the best opportunity to make the team and will benefit dramatically from the summer workouts, but no one is guaranteed a position. All players will be carefully evaluated by the coaching staff during tryouts.
